Self Care
What is Self Care? Self Care is the activities you can do at home to help increase the healing process, speed up recovery and decrease pain, tension and stress. Self Care can included hydrotherapy, stretching, strengthening activities, ergonomic recommendations and a vast array of wellness suggestions to help improve your overall health and well-being.
Why is Self Care important? Massage Therapy aids with both acute and chronic conditions, but it’s what you do for your mind, body & spirit in between appointments which has the greatest effect on the whole.
For example, if you have a back injury, icing your back, performing stretching & strengthening activities can speed up the recovery process. If you continue with stretching & strengthening you might be able to prevent a re-occurrence of the injury or have a less serious injury in the future.
A common reason for a visit to a Massage Therapist is stress reduction. By adding Self Care activities for stress reduction to your daily or weekly routine you maybe able to reduce your stress & increase your overall well-being. Self Care examples for stress reduction include baths, walking in the park, reading a book, meditation, relaxation and breathing techniques.
Self Care recommendations are often given at the end of each treatment. If you would like detailed and thorough Self Care instructions schedule an extra 15 minutes for your appointment to allow for adequate time for your massage and instruction.
Disclaimer: Be sure to check with your Therapist (me) or other Health Care Provider to ensure these activities are safe for you!
